This Adult IV Safety Coalition session brings together clinical experts and health system leaders to unpack the complexity of IV safety—from oncology patient risks to the increasing use of peripheral vasopressors. It also revisits long-standing and sometimes controversial practices, including saline washout and antidote use in extravasation management, translating evolving evidence and real-world experience into practical, bedside-relevant guidance.
The conversation further underscores persistent gaps in research and the lack of standardized protocols across hospital systems. By elevating these challenges to the leadership level, it highlights how stronger governance, alignment, and strategic implementation can reduce variability, mitigate risk, and drive safer, more consistent vascular access care.
